Online distance learning has become the ultimate high-tech alternative to traditional school classroom education.

What is distance education?

Distance learning as a term is commonly used when talking about teaching-learning where the student is located at one place in the world and the school/teacher is located at another.

Why use it?

There are many good reasons why a school might choose to use distance learning or e-learning.

1. The school has students from a large geographical area. And to enhance this environment (and the number of potential students), online long-distance study methods work very well, without the need for a large campus or multiple hostels.

2. The school has several campuses located at a great distance. It is one of the most innovative ways to access distance learning. The student is located on campus, but since the school has multiple campuses and students (and teachers) have to travel for hours to reach each one, classes turn into a distance learning experience.

3. Some teachers. This is possible because teachers can teach in different parts of the country (and the world) without having to travel!

Everything from email and simple BBS to live video and advanced meeting spaces where students and teachers can work together interactively.

Tests and worksheets can be mailed or delivered and saved directly to school servers via file sharing.

And combining things like high-definition webcams and Skype can take collaboration to an entirely new and unprecedented level.
