About distance learning
It seems that distance learning students enjoy it more than anything. This allows them to continue working and earning a salary at the same time without actually studying. Of course, one of the benefits of distance education that attracts so many students is the subject matter of their choice. In addition, distance learning students have the flexibility to learn at their own pace without having to follow a class schedule.
However, amidst these advantages, distance learning requires a lot of discipline and motivation from the students. When we are stuck between work and study, it becomes very easy to lose track of our priorities and not dwell on them. Additionally, distance-learning students do not have the benefit of renewing their learning drive while interacting with teachers or peers in the classroom.
So, how can distance learning students overcome this challenge? First of all, a student should have good time management. Everyone has 24 hours and it is up to us to make good use of our time. Make a daily or weekly plan for yourself and make sure you set aside time for your studies every day. If you have a family, tell them your schedule so they know when not to worry. Divide your time properly between your work, your family, and your studies. Of course, discipline is important here because any program is useless if it is not followed.
Self-motivation is essential to the success of distance learning. One way to do this is to connect with your classmates. Today, it is often easier to connect to the Internet via e-mail, instant messenger, and Internet telephony. Discussing projects or tasks with your peers keeps you on track and holds you and your teammates accountable to each other.
Setting goals and rewarding yourself when you achieve them are great self-motivating habits. Start by charting the obstacles you’ll need to overcome to complete your course. Hit each target as you complete them and reward yourself accordingly. When we see ourselves growing there is a certain satisfaction and this becomes the motivation to face the next obstacle.
Additionally, it is important for the distance learning student to establish a quiet place for study at home away from distractions such as television, phone calls, or other family members. Organize unlimited study space or lock yourself in a quiet room to ensure maximum concentration. Apart from this, a good chair, sturdy table, and enough space are also necessary to create a comfortable atmosphere.
Lastly, though distance learning is a great and effective learning concept, its effectiveness depends on the habits and judgment of the individual. The full benefits of distance education can be reaped only through hard work, discipline, and determination to succeed.
